“Touch is not just a pleasant stimulus, but a biological necessity.”- Dr Phyllis K Davies, Ph. D. Infant massage is a type of positive touch and an extremely important form of communication between parent and baby, helping with the attachment and bonding process. Birth can be a very stressful experience for a newborn and massage can reduce this stress; which is as important for tiny infants as it is for adults.
Building it into their bedtime routine :
If a massage is introduced after a bath as part of a baby’s bedtime routine it can help to release tension in the baby and mother; it improves the baby’s circulation, deepens and regulates the breathing and increases the levels of oxygen in the bloodstream which leads to deeper sleep.
